The destruction of an Institution - RBI

Not even an year back when Raghuram Rajan was at the helm of affairs at RBI, it was an institution which was looked up on, which was renowned across the globe as knowing what it was doing and it braved the recession like a champ.

But now with a puppet installed at the helm after removing Raghuram Rajan it has become unrecognizable and almost incompetent. So much so that it is now even credited with being the first institution which has successfully manufactured a recession and slowed down a fast growing economy.

Let’s just try and understand what transpired in the last couple of weeks in RBI
  1. They have admitted they have no clue as to how many notes were printed and circulated. And that was their one primary job in the last month. All they have are a handful of factories and they couldn’t keep track of even that much. The incompetence is appalling and the thought that they are safeguarding the economy is scary and fast becoming a frightening reality
  2. They have admitted the demonetization decision was taken after deliberation with RBI for one day. Nov 7th advised by government and Nov 8th approved by RBI, and hours after approval announcement was made. This is what happens when you don’t have a strong person at the helm at RBI. And this exactly is why RBI should be autonomous away from interference of the government
  3. This might make you believe that the government actually consulted some financial experts before taking this decision. Wrong again, another RTI has revealed PMO has no clue as to which financial experts were consulted
  4. The situation gets worse, the finance minister when asked about how much money is back in the banks has no clue about it. And that was his job. With real time tracking of money possible in all banks, it won’t take a couple of hours to know this. So its appalling incompetence. But no I believe it’s because all money has come back into system and accepting that would be a big disgrace to the entire demonetization process which was supposed to bring them windfall gains.
  5. And as for the planning part as per another RTI the printing of new 500 Rs notes happened two weeks after demonetization, again exposing the lack of planning of the entire exercise.
  6. And in other news, there are notes without Gandhiji. And latest notes with one side blank. And some officials claim there are 3 types of 500 and 2000. That’s some quality notes we are printing there, just makes it easier for counterfeiting.
  7. And the narrative which was fully on Black money on Nov 8th has now shifted to cashless, counterfeiting and terrorism. Guess what no Black money came back even after all the freebies and goodies offered. Because all the major black money holders were informed much in advance.
  8. And in latest news RBI governor was seen running away (literally) from the media, afraid to answer the queries or because he has no answers for the debacle that is demonetization
  9.  And the RBI gave a reason threat to life to not answer questions about the preparations for demonetisation. One it could be from the ruling regime because they would look bad, other could be from the general public who would understand how unprepared they were for making the public pay such a huge price.

Ultimately it is saddening to see a once powerful and reputed institution becoming just another tool for the politicians. But hey its in good company of the CBI, Censor board, countless educational institutions which are being reduced to a shadow of their former self's.

The BJP RSS smokescreen and why it might turn into a wildfire they dont want

When bhakts raise their voice and share a news piece with unparalleled vigor I grow concerned . . .
And when even the partial bhakts starts posting stuff with vigor I get scared because I become doubly sure that some looting of country is happening and something urgent needs covering up.
This has been a trend I have noticed from the first intolerance debate. Every time a trivial issue is made a national issue by the BJP and is affiliates (read ABVP, RSS, VHP, goons and the like) and made to occupy all the media space, I immediately go scour the news on topics other than the ones being pushed to your face and shoved down for inciting our debates and force us to take sides to create a smokescreen.
Some of the most important news that would have shaken other governments and had shaken previous governments happened last week and were ignored by the media (why? is obvious they have sold themselves to Mr 56 inch). Here is why we shouldn’t miss the woods for the trees. If you ask me isn’t doing things against the interest of the nation and people of nation more anti national than expressing dissent?

1. When previous government was about to dilute the nuclear liability bill BJP created such a ruckus and rode on popular support to gain brownie points. Now they are like to hell with people. Seen bigger hypocrisy, opportunism and U turns.
http://scroll.in/…/the-dilution-of-nuclear-liability-by-mod…

2. Another anti people and cruel step by the government and the explanation they give is cheaper substitutes are available. Lemme see one of the ministers taking cheaper substitutes for their children and family. And guess who one of the major producers of these substitutes are (starts with Reli and ends with ance). . what a coincidence right?

3. Thanks to social media this one survived one day but immediately next day the JNU issue was highlighted and media was spared from being forced to take up the issue. The bad debts written off has tripled in this government over the last one. Seriously you guys have any doubts where the loyalties lie. Its again showing the middle finger to the people.

4. Because marketing matters more than people’s lives. The make in Indi event which was conducted in violation of all safety norms. The event organizers most probably will be made the scapegoats.

And coming to the current diversion tactics they have used. They might have just missed the plot here. They are now almost managing the impossible of bringing together of all the opposition. Some interesting observations
1. Anyone in their sane mind who has seen the Kanhaiya speech knows he hasn’t spoken anything anti national to merit arrest on sedition charges, on the contrary he spoke of upholding the constitution, meaning of which is certainly lost on this government
2. Arnab Goswami as the champion of free speech, don’t make me laugh. If anyone has seen even one episode you know no one but he talks on a pre-fixed agenda and to take him seriously is a joke.
3. There are even video evidences to show the people who raised the slogans and why are they not being found and arrested. And what if they turn out to be of the ruling party will they be tried for sedition or will hypocrisy continue.
4. Nathuram Godse is as much a terrorist as Afzal Guru if not more because he murdered the one person from India who was respected around the Globe irrespective of what you think and was instrumental in the freedom movement. So why weren’t the Hindu Mahasabha people arrested on charges of sedition.
5. 40 varsities have extended their support in India to the movement. 400 international colleges too. So much for India’s image being helped by the current government
6. People who haven’t even passed proper college education commenting on affairs of JNU makes me laugh. Of course you’ll find some support from people who were rejected due to the high standards of selection. Heard of the story of sour grapes?
7. One of the funniest comments I heard on the issue was it is a campus of free sex and hence it should be banned. I can only imagine them to be sexually frustrated and jealous of not getting it. And as long as it’s consensual what is the problem with sex?
8. Finally the beating up of journalists and students in the courts while the police looked on shows dangerous tie up between goondas and police and total breakdown of law and order. So whom do ordinary citizens turn to for protection and justice? With even the lapdog of BJP Bassi defending the unlawful acts what are we as citizens left with?

Anyway the point being we should really identify what really is anti-national and maybe just maybe the right wing has bit more than it can chew this time.
